Upgrade Approach?

Whats the easiest way to upgrade to new box?
Current System/Box -
Freepbx 2.6
Asterisk 1.4

I would like to go either 1.6 or 1.8 Asterisk and Freepbx 2.8 but everytime i do a complete backup set on the old box and restore on the new box, it craps out. Suggestions? It even craps out if i install 1.4 on the new box.

You can try the IncredibleBackup and Restore.
That should work.
Are you using the FreePBX Backup now?
What do you mean by "it craps out"?

Hmmm last time I looked FPBX still seems to have problems with restore (v2.8) Have not tried 2.9 yet.. Incredible backup is a good alternative.

As for upgrade.... no such beast between asterisk versions. Recommend a new install of Asterisk 1.8 / piaf purple. Unless you have a very complex setup inside of freepbx it is usually faster to simply recreate stuff under the new version of asterisk. Normally I run the new server and old server's fpbx interfaces side by side and cut and paste.
