Hi
I have tried searching, but unfortunately searching for "1.6" results in too short of a query!

I would like to upgrade from Asterisk 1.4 to 1.6 but wasn't sure the best way to do it. I am running PBX in a Flash version 1.3 with Asterisk 1.4 currently, and did all of the update-scripts, fixes, and so on.

Is there a command that can be run on an existing installation to upgrade to Asterisk 1.6, or would I need to re-install from the ISO and choose the Asterisk 1.6 option?

Thanks a million.

I would suggest that the least painful way would be a re-install from the ISO.

Also note that 1.6 is in Beta still, so if this is production machine....

There is NO path to upgrade between Asterisk versions I am afraid. The developers at Digium like to change things between versions which results in major problems when writing an upgrade scripts. For example between 1.2 and 1.4 there was internal language changes that broke nearly every third party application. 1.4 to 1.6 is no exception. You might want to wait till Asterisk 1.6 and Dahdi comes out of RC status before you make the plunge. For example they just released Dadhi for Asterisk 1.6. A headache I have not been looking forward to....

Also I suggest you DO NOT use the 64bit version of PIAF for asterisk 1.6. There are some problems still under a 64bit OS using 1.6 that won't go away till Digium acknowledges that 64 bit processors actually exist and are willing to fix the problems for their software.

(me sound bitter never!)

If you are just experimenting have at it! If you want a production class system nothing beats PIAF 1.4 running on 32bit!

Great, thanks for the info. This is a box I use at home, so to me it is a test/play box, but to the wife it is production!

My problem is with the 30 minute session timers. I guess Asterisk 1.4 does not support RFC 4028 periodic re-invite, so at the 30 minute mark my call gets dropped. It only happens with 1 voip provider. Asterisk 1.6 is supposed to support this, so I may have to play with it.

So, now that 1.6 is final........HOW DO WE UPGRADE TO 1.6

I have tried downloading the source. If we can't get and update-source script how about a howto forum post or something PLEASE!!!

Re: Upgrading to 1.6... you can't. You get to start over. Believe me, we've tried. It's just too different or improved depending upon your point of view.

Re: Keeping the Little Mrs. Happy with 1.6... If you want to keep your wife, DON'T.
