Virtualizing PIAF

Thanks for your reply

Hi dswartz I understand that you have now moved away from ESXI but any help you could provide would be great. As I have to stick with ESXI due to running business critical systems on it such as exchange and backup servers.

Thanks

Does the OpenVZ appliance you are using is updated to the latest version of Piaf? I am wondering why not simply use the install script available. Or is there subtle difference between the OpenVZ appliance and the regular install script?

Thanks

sorry, i have no knowledge of the issues you are having. i understand you need to keep esxi for the other apps - do you really need to keep the piaf on that one host? you can't throw it on another PC?

what install script do you mean?

keep in mind that openvz containers are stock installs of the distro with various changes made to get rid of things that are not necessary or don't in a PVM environment. i didn't actually install an openvz appliance, since there was not one available that was piaf bronze - only a piaf silver (IIRC.) so i copied over the entire directory hierarchy from my old physical server and then went through fixing stuff by hand. not for the faint of heart :)

I think this is apples and oranges - that script is for installing piaf on an already existing centos5 installation, whereas what I had to do was take a physical (or HVM) piaf install and convert it to PVM. As far as sharing what I did, I started with a link (on this board I think?) about converting. I found a bunch of niggling little things I had to fix - sorry, I wasn't making notes, so I couldn't even begin to reconstruct what I did :(
