Voice Mail and Old messages

Just wondering what and how you guys are handling the storage of old and saved messages for any one mailbox. Today I had to move 300+ messages for an users and it took forever. It never occurred to me that someone would keep knowingly or not, that many messages. I suppose I could have a script to clean up the mailboxes automatically in cron. But I worry the customer may want to save one I don't know about.
My cell phone VM warns that "the following message will be deleted..."

I believe that you can set a maximum number of messages in voicemail.conf

You can do it from ARI. In FreePBX click recordings, login with the extension and password and highlight all the messages and move them to the old messages folder
