I ran password-master this week. Now when I make any kind of change at all to any extension, it breaks the voice mail on the entire system. I am running 1.8 purple. What did I break?

Thank you for your "detailed" posting

read this thread

http://pbxinaflash.com/community/threads/need-help-post-better-info-first.1858/?t=1858

then provide us with the info outlined in the thread

As for running passwd-master and it breaking voicemail..... I seriously doubt that is it related to running passwd-master.

The latest release of passwd-master ONLY runs the subprograms

passwd-maint
passwd-ari
passwd-meetme
passwd-wwwadmin

None of which have anything to do AT ALL with voicemail. From your meager information there must be something else wrong. Perhaps a better history will help to track down where this error really is.

best regards

Tom,

Sorry for the shortness. I was in a time bind when I posted that. If we change anything on an extension you get an asterisk recording stating an error has occurred. I was not sure if the password-master had anything to do with it or not but we have not changed anything else.

You can change anything except for any extension parameters.
It seems to only affect the voice mail as you can still make calls. Even if you change like the password on an extension, it affects all of the extensions.

On another subject, we use several trixboxes for routing of did numbers for pagers. These have been around for several years, but they have all been hacked in the last month and all setting trying to make outbound calls. Since these are inbound only, it is just annoying, but I think everyone should be aware this is happening more often and the enemy is pretty smart.

If you need more info on the voice mail, I will post some logs.

I found more info on this problem and have since fixed it. It was self inflicted about a month ago or so. After putting our new purple box online sometime in Feb, many voice mail users wanted to switch back to the old type email message that was with the earlier versions.

After researching on this forum, I found a couple of posts that said to put these 2 lines in voicemail.conf

include vm_general.inc
include vm_email.inc

That did work just fine until we updated an extension a day or two ago and everyone's voicemail quit on the whole system as well as outbound caller id. Weird stuff started happening.

Since I am not an asterisk command line guru, I had to backtrack and try and remember just what had changed. It had been quite a while since we updated an extension I guess, and now I guess when you update one, it rewrites all of them.
