VoIPCNAM Service Update

I received this and thought I would pass it along to the community for anyone who uses their service.

June 9th, 2009

VoIPCNAM.com's telco-based CNAM lookup services are temporarily offline, and will continue to be offline until tomorrow, June 10th. This outage only affects new queries that have not been looked up recently. Queries to numbers that no longer remain in our short-term database will result in "Name Unavailable," and any charges accumulated from these queries will be refunded to your account shortly. This outage was caused by abuse of our website which has forced us to change carriers. Our new CNAM lookup telco carrier should have us back online by tomorrow.

Do you know how they relate to cnam.info ? This is the announcement in their (cnam.info) portal:

Service is currently unavailable. The cause is a result of misuse of the service that led to our connection being terminated. We are working with the telco to get back online, but because a customer was abusing the service this may take some time. This is the second time this has happened.

I started using Metrostat CNAM service a while back, and they've been pretty cheap & reliable.

Why would you use this when so much effort has been put into callerID Superfecta? What are you gaining that is not already available for free?

Real telco CNAM queries.

The Superfecta has many good sources of information, but ultimately I found it to not be as complete as direct CNAM data.

I use Metrostat because it's 1.8 cents/query, and the lookups are cached to the Asterisk phonebook so I really only have to query once per new/unrecognized number coming into my PBX.
