Trying to have vm email me. I have: line 3 of /etc/hosts look like

127.0.0.1 pbx.dyndns.org* pbx.local pbx localhost.localdomain localhost

and I have edited line 6 of etc/asterisk/vm_general.inc to look like

[email protected]*

*replaced with my actual dyndns name

All as per 1.4 instructions.

And no e-mails, any suggestions would be welcomed. Be slow and simple as I am just starting out on this journey!

Thanks

Sounds like your service provider may be blocking downstream SMTP traffic. There are methods for sending emails directly through Gmail or Comcast in the Add-On forum.

Not to question the wisdom, but I am not sure. I do not time out when I [SIZE=-1]telnet cutedgesystems.com 25 as indicated in other e-mails. What does that tell me?
Suggestions? The suggestions appear to be tailored to those who time out.

Thanks

You know sometimes the answer is just to obvious. This works for me now I had forgotten to configure send mail.

Thanks to all

You shouldn't have to configure SendMail at all. Is this a PIAF system? :confused5:

Oops spoke to soon!

Yes it is a PBX in a flash system AND no it is not working. I am confused as it did work ONCE after configuring. Based on Ward's comment I will go back and unconfigure (I know not a word but you know what I mean!)

So I am back to any and all suggestions

Thanks

Sorry to perhaps sidetrack the thread, my question is related.

Having carefully read the instructions, it appears you do not need to change pbx.dyndns.org into your own in hosts and vm_general.inc

With me email works.

One uncertainty that is nagging me: is there a downside to using pbx.dyndns.org here? Does the hosts file need this entry for other purposes than voice mail?

Mine worked right off. I just set
Status to enabled under Voicemail & Directory. I used the extension for the password and used a valid email address. If your mailserver does not accept unauthenticated emails it might cause the problem.

I could never get mine working. I instead had to use POSTFIX due to sbc authentication servers. Try searching for postfix
