I use a SIP trunk on my install and also have connections to the PBX I back haul with wireless as well as phones that register over the internet.

Needless to say I make good use of 729. I use licenses I bought from Digium for this. The aggravation comes in whenever I rebuild my PIAF box as I have to contact Digium and create a support ticket so I can re-register the licenses.

There must be a better way.

What do you guys do?

Thanks,
Donnie

Sucks doing that don't it? Not to mention they will at some point refuse to reissue them. They told me they had maxed out and I could not do it again. I then explained to them that was fine but then I expect a full refund as there was nothing I read when buying the licenses about them just being a rental. That got me through that time but I doubt I can do it again.

Thanks for the clarification. I just assumed that is the way it was. I cannot say I agree with that licensing model especially in this day and age with virtual everything but obviously that is up to the company. Not to mention like I said in the initial post, that is not a license purchase in my mind but a license rental. It is no different than saying your drivers license is only good until you change cars.

You can always buy the transcoder card and then you won't have to worry about the license problem. It's cheaper in the long run anyway.

You know I thought that was a pretty good idea until I saw that the cards are like a grand :P

If I was running this at work I would go that route (I always prefer hardware transcoding to software) but this is just at home so I will stick with software. Now with that said I also run CallManager but I use a router with DSP's for transcoding.

Thanks for the suggestion.
