FUNNY STUFF What's your on hold music?

The link that jmcman linked to should get you started...
The station I use is from SomaFM, which allowed for redistribution (I.E. No issues with playback through a PBX) when I originally setup the MoH source. Here is the link I use for PiaF:
/usr/bin/mpg123 -q -r 8000 -f 8192 --mono -s http://sfstream1.somafm.com:8032

Here is the link to their website:

I didn't know streaming audio for hold music was possible - so with that link, what would I then do in FreePBX? (Using Incredible Pi here so may not have the processing power to do it).

FreePBX -> Settings -> MOH
Add Streaming Category

Name it
I put this in the application string: /usr/bin/mpg123 -q -r 8000 -f 8192 --mono -s http://sfstream1.somafm.com:8032
Submit
apply config

set it to a ring group.

I didnt check the Pis cpu but the sound when i called was clear.

To update a little. I called again, watched the FreePBX System Status page and cpu never hit above 9%. I am only using IncrediblePi basically as stock image with GV and two extensions on an ATA, so I am not taxing it by any stretch of the imagination. Hope this helps.

I use my local NPR station:

/usr/bin/mpg123 -q -s -m -r 8000 -@ http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wcmu/ppr/wcmu.pls

I had issues using -f 8192 being extremely quiet. I am using Asterisk 11.4

-f is mpg123's soft gain, the closes thing to volume for the program. So to change the 'volume' you can have a value 1 - 32768, 32768 being the default (max). I personally need a value to 1192 for my music to stop it from killing cellphone callers ears.
