Whole Disk Backup 2.0 released

Thanks Tom I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for your advice Tom. I'll give it a go at my next opportunity.

Ward: You need to consider other variables besides hardware and iso's. I purchased every item directly via the hyperlinks in your article. The green box couldn't say GPC2 much larger. As I have run the update scripts, my system is no longer exactly what was in the iso's.

Sorry if my comment was offensive. We obviously have no way of knowing everyone in the forums. "Some" have real problems with stuff we have recommended. "Some" are trolls from "elsewhere" if you know what I mean. Didn't mean to lump you into the wrong batch.

All's well

I reinstalled the disk backup script per the document on pbxinaflash.org. Took but a minute, and everything worked first try. Oh; I saved and reused the .conf file from the Orgasmatron install unchanged.

Getting the same error as didopido. I'm running PiaF, but the whole disk backup script seems to think I'm not. Anything I can check to correct this? I've run update-scripts and update-fixes, do I need to run update-source?

Thanks all!

SMB Password - Special Characters Limitation

I configured the whole disk backup of my fairly new Orgasmatron (v.1) system to copy the ISOs to a Samba share. The backup worked fine except the SMB mount operation failed, so the ISOs didn't copy across the network at the end. Manually mounting that share with the same credentials, however, worked fine.

The password for the user I specified in disk-backup.conf contained a dollar sign. I changed the password on the Samba server and in disk-backup.conf to one with no special characters, and the backup completed successfully.

With Orgasmatron II, whole disk backup is preconfigured and Samba is installed but disabled by default. You can activate Samba in WebMin if you want/need it. For backups, plug in a flash drive, log in as root, and type: ./usbformat.sh. That's it. Every Sunday thereafter, you'll get an automatic full system backup in ISO format. Every machine should have it... if you care about your system... and your marriage.

emailing of the log

I installed the whole disk backup solution and it backs up everything perfectly to the my attached usb thumb drive and to my ftp server.

There is only one small problem.

Initially when I set this up and tried to run it, I forgot to set the value to "1" in the disk-backup.conf file indicating that it had been configured so I got the log emailed to me flawlessly indicating to me the error message. Once I set it to "1" and ran it again, once manually and once automatically on a Sunday, the log was not emailed to me. Both of those backups were complete according to the log.

Is there a way that I can get to the bottom of why the log is not being emailed? I have send mail configured and I get emails for the voicemails flawlessly. I could imagine that after a while that this log file will get rather large so is there a way to fire off an email to me just letting me know that the backup and transfer was sucessful rather than transmitting the whole log?

Thank you for any suggestions. Please be gentle, I am a total noob at this.

What version are you guys running the link is for the older pre PIAF 1.2. If you are running verion 1.2 or higher then use this link

http://www.pbxinaflash.org/ast14/scripts/install-diskbackup.x.gz

this is for PIAF 1.2 and greater based on asterisk 1.4 code

if you are using PIAF version 1.2 or greater based on Asterisk 1.6 then use this link

http://www.pbxinaflash.org/ast16/scripts/install-diskbackup.x.gz

Hope it helps.... A new version of the program is in alpha testing at the moment.

Tom

Whats the status?

This link http://www.pbxinaflash.org/ast16/scripts/install-diskbackup.x.gz doesn't work. I found the script but I am using the beta, which I think is the only version that uses Asterisk 1.6. When I run the job, it tells me I need to be running PBX in a Flash to use the script. Is there a workaround to get the backup to work on the beta? If not, is there another backup option?

Thanks. This is what I installed but it doesn't seem to be the version that can send out an email report to an external address. Am I wrong?

you should have a file called

/usr/local/sbin/script-email.conf

edit the file and set where you want the log file delivered. If it does not exist here is a copy

Very good. I copied and configured the file. We'll see how this works.

Thanks for the input,

You also need to ensure your mail delivery agent will deliver mail to the outside world. There are many guides for postfix, sendmail, etc available.

I know redundant but sometimes people forget to do this step and complain that it does not send email.
