Whole Disk Backup 2.0 released

Actually this whole problem reminded me to check my sendmail settings which I must of forgot about. Voicemail to email and logs are being forwarded to my address so I should be good now.

Thanks again,
A.J.

I can't over-emphasize the following point enough: a solution like this is absolutely worthless if you don't try a bare-metal restore to make sure the damn thing works! Having been burned this way myself, it is NOT fun to have a hard drive go bad, replace it, boot the mondo CD and confidently say "we'll be up shortly", and... Not so much! I don't remember what specifically mondo f*cked up, but the backup image was worthless.

http://clonezilla.org/ works every time. Open source Ghost. Perfect for bare metal backup and restore. Do this once a QTR in the evening or on the weekend, runs very fast, and your set.

Then run the backup 2.0 to grab the configs and such and offload to a USB stick. Do this once a week or so.

I have tested several times and was able to restore entire system in 15 minutes + the latest configs. Took me longer to flip flop the drives.

We're also developing a new backup process with Orgasmatron that may prove useful. The idea is to build up a system to the Orgasmatron level and then be able to restore a snapshot of your live Orgasmatron system.

Unfortunately, we actually got to test it this week when we were in the mountains and our server at home crashed. We're now running off Proxmox with an image from the home system. The beauty of Proxmox, of course, is that you can create these systems on the fly from anywhere with Internet access.

There were only a few kinks which we will get worked out. Nothing like an unanticipated crash to focus your attention. Once the kinks are worked out, we'll publish the procedure for all to use.

Disk-backup issue

Hi,
I have been able to run the Disk-backup program on 2 systems, but on a third one, I'm having some issues. The install fails with the following message - and I have tried a few different times to make sure it isn't just mirrors being unavailable:

Any insight to the issue would be appreciated :confused5:

Your problem is that that particular machine cannot see the mondo repository. Generally this is due to some type of upstream problem with the repo or routing from the machine. No ideas as to how to fix it. Just ran a test here and can connect with no problems.

that looks dead as well...
