Why a symlink to sip.conf? Won't respond properly to inbound calls?

Searched here:
http://www.google.com/search?q=sip.conf+symlink+site:pbxinaflash.com/forum/&

because I have a symlink instead of a file:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 asterisk asterisk 45 Jan 28 17:09 sip.conf -> /var/www/html/admin/modules/core/etc/sip.conf

My notes say that if I get a "ss-noservice" message, I
should change the context to

context = from-trunk

Why the symlink? Should I create a real sip.conf
in /etc/asterisk?

Any other hints to get inbound calls working?

I guess I need to make changes in sip_custom.conf?

From PIAF_Without_Tears.pdf:

"Every time you update freePBX, there is a good chance
that changes or additions you have made in sip.conf
will be overwritten. To avoid this, all additions I
wish to make in sip.conf are made in sip_custom.conf"
