wish list: cell phone notification

I wish someone would build bobh's cell phone notification script in freepbx. I think it would be a great addition.

You should post this over @ FreePBX... really though, we already know how to "do it" for both Asterisk 1.2 & 1.4, so it would take someone knowledgable to write dialplans within FreePBX for each and make a module (which I know nothing about). You should drop them a line and see what reaction you get.

I posted it over there about 6 months ago.
It would be nice to have it as an option in the voicemail settings. The pager notification seems useless, would be nice to replace that.

HMmmmmmm... good luck with integrating it with ARI, I don't believe that will happen for a long time (if it does). I feel FreePBX's expanding of Little John's ARI is completely out of neccessity for exposing some new features... no real motiviation to take it over. It is very much the same interface today as it was 3 years ago (same with FOP). Perhaps one day they will, but not atm.

I think the best we can hope for is it's integration into FreePBX itself. They take complete control there and I think would be more comfortable doing it. Perhaps after it's in FreePBX they'd look into ARI, maybe (e.g. FollowMe).

I think they're more likely to redesign a completely new user interface into FreePBX than continue with ARI, but that's just my opinion.

P.S.
I know some people *do* use the pager notification (specifically for cell phones), but I don't myself.

I just use the pager notification email address in the voicemail conf for the extension. Most cell providers have an email address that sends a txt to your phone. Insert that address there and you'll receive a regular email, but also an sms message when a voicemail is left. That's what I use and works great.

Unless you are talking about the system calling your cell phone and giving you the option to check the vmail from there like key systems do right?
I like the SMS feature, it is VERY sweet. People like that...but hey, most even have Blackberry's that they get email and the wav file which they like even better....
