TIPS Cellular.everything

I had a mikrotik that 'just worked' It was either or much like this one

According to its specs, it does not support band 5, 13, or 66 which are used by Verizon/Visible.

This one works with Verizon but you'd need to make sure you have Band-13 in your area. Its on Amazon so you could return it if your SIM card from Visible did not work. I'm not convinced that Visible wants to allow LTE data devices on the network so you'd probably have to use another phones IMEI to order a SIM card for it.

Or this one from Novatel: https://www.amazon.com/Verizon-Nova...vatel+T1114v+LTE+Router&qid=1617673825&sr=8-3

It supports band 5 for LTE and 3G, but you are correct on the other two.

Supported Bands
• LTE (FDD) bands: 2(1900)/4(1700)/5(850)/12(700)
• 3G bands: 2(1900)/5(850)

The Netgear is available on eBay for $33. Might be interesting. Has anyone actually tried it?

@kenn10 comment suggests band 13 is not widely available. I wonder how that compares to band 5
Band-13 is Verizon's primary band. 2, 5, and 66 are also available in many areas. They run "LTE Plus" on band-13 in my area which, as I understand it, uses channel aggregation for faster speed.

I was reading that has an eSIM. So I am not sure it would even have a slot for a physical card.
I don't think there would be much hope of getting the eSIM to work outside of Verizon direct. However, on eBay, a vendor says they will give you the IMEI to see if it qualifies.

I don't think Band 13 is available in the spot where I would be putting the router. I did a speed test and it was not too great. Even AT&T does not even have DSL/U-Verse in the area.

I will check that out and give an update to the IMEI with Visible.

You can always check out Starlink.

Currently at about the 40th parallel but slowly going south, I am told we will get useful coverage at 36 degrees by november

I did get an invite for service at location at an address I have out of the US at 26 degrees. I spend a lot more time there than at the other place west of it. However, $500 plus $99 a month I am not so sure about. I just wanted to use it as a VPN while out of the US.

OK $99 a month is 2X more than Visible without friends, also 3X mint mobile , I gave up on Visible as often as not the 4:20 crush kills it. Mint using T-Mobile remains solid here. starlink around here is maybe 4Mbs as yet, I have a friend in Seattle getting a regular 250mbs at the same price,. 1200 satellites on the wall, 40000 to go . . . sleep 2 weeks -- 1260 satellites on the wall . . . .

So my vote right now Mintmobile gets my $360/year with no muss no fuss on any 4G LTE modem of choice. Yes it knows about 4k video though ;-)

So my vote right now Mintmobile
Starlink would be a last resort if you have no other reasonable alternative. There are many, many places that barely have Verizon service, much less T-Mobile or AT&T. Rural areas are the worst for cellular and no other form of broadband so Starlink will be hopeful for those people.

Just looked up verizon's latest unlimited, it now just $10 more than Visible and with less restrictions.

Probably has support too ;-)

(I'm stuck with Mint for another 9 months, but have no regrets . Were I to choose in the near future 25MBS with caps or 250MBS with no caps, I would be tempted and pretty sure that $99 will go way down as the market goes way up, That's just how Elon Musk has become what he is , (and why you are now wearing Chinese underwear))

Some years ago, I was in a remote area. The cable company did not quite run to my house, but they offered to run it to the house at about $7 a foot. It was a few thousand feet away, and so I declined. I then got ISDN from Megapath. It was only 128K and painfully slow, plus at a cost $135 a month. I ended up getting Satellite Internet. The latency was horrible. Starlink will help with rural areas for sure.

If you look at the fine print, using 5G is an extra $10 a month, bringing it to $45 a month. Visible includes 5G access in its pricing.
