R.I.P. Sangoma's Nosedive

If Sangoma is letting freepbx die what is the fate of the asterisk project, is there a reason to keep asterisk as an open source project.

Asterisk isn't only used by FreePBX. Asterisk and FreePBX are not the same projects or handled the same way.

That's a little naive. They're both owned and funded by the same company... at least today.

Yet what I said was pretty factual. Asterisk has revenue streams not available to FreePBX and vice versa. They are not intertwined in such a way that if Asterisk was sold tomorrow FreePBX had to go with it and vice versa.

Some of our Sangoma escapees seem to understand things well suggested by their posts here.
There must be a business model on how to run based on an open source product. I know there are examples, but I'm too daft about them to make further comments.

There has been clarity given on this. The earnings report stated that a de-emphasis of non-core product lines like 3rd party hardware sales (i.e. VoIP Supply) will happen. However, per Sangoma, FreePBX is a core product so it does not fall into the non-core product line category.

Seems like what happens to a number of companies when they get a bunch of MBA's on board. They think they know best and then the company falls apart.
