Asterisk isn't only used by FreePBX. Asterisk and FreePBX are not the same projects or handled the same way.If Sangoma is letting freepbx die what is the fate of the asterisk project, is there a reason to keep asterisk as an open source project.
That's a little naive. They're both owned and funded by the same company... at least today.Asterisk isn't only used by FreePBX. Asterisk and FreePBX are not the same projects or handled the same way.
Yet what I said was pretty factual. Asterisk has revenue streams not available to FreePBX and vice versa. They are not intertwined in such a way that if Asterisk was sold tomorrow FreePBX had to go with it and vice versa. That's a little naive. They're both owned and funded by the same company... at least today.
There has been clarity given on this. The earnings report stated that a de-emphasis of non-core product lines like 3rd party hardware sales (i.e. VoIP Supply) will happen. However, per Sangoma, FreePBX is a core product so it does not fall into the non-core product line category.![]()

Sangoma's latest update is just more spin to mask the cracks. They’re bragging about hitting their debt...stockhouse.com
If any of you actually hold your nose and read that thread, I kept seeing flashbacks to Lord of the Flies where a bunch of stranded kids make up a bunch of silly rules and then spend their days poking each other in the eye and spinning in circles. You can read the Cliff's Notes version on Wikipedia if you never actually read the book. Pretty sad, actually.
