Well i made the mother of all goof ups, I installed PIAF 1.2 before I read any of the threads and warnings, this was my first install for someone other than us, now we are feeling the brunt of a very unhappy customer. This was my mistake, I should have used 1.1. Ok now that we have the blame placed on the right party (me). should i install 1.1 or can i save this 1.2 install? here is my config and issues:

Hardware:
server = dell 1950
phones = 30 x Aasrta 57i
addons = 7 x 560m
PIAF = 64 bit

I have installed these scripts:
asteridex
weather zip/airport
Ultimate CNAM
Cepstral
mailcall
reminders
my iax/hylafax/avantfax write up
Wards Aastra scripts

Issues: (listed in order of importance)
1) every morning when the customer comes in, the phones are ALL unregistered, they need to reboot the phones every morning.
2) the park and intercom keys randomly stop working
3) the 560m expansion modules randomly stop working
4) voicemail to email not working (the customer uses an exchange server on the same network, this is a first for me, might be i don't know what i am doing)
5) Cepstral voice is to slow or to fast randomly
6) the time on the phones randomly changes

these are the major issues, i will take full responsability for screwing this up, i guess i was to confident, we have had no issues with our server or phones and this customer was pushing me to get them something that was like the cool switch we had. please accept my apologies for being an idiot, any help on these issues is appreciated.

The interesting thing is if you used the PBX in a Flash - Version 1.2 -- Asterisk 1.4 --- CentOS 32 bit install then it is basically the same as the 1.1 iso. Really no difference other than the latest asterisk and freepbx.

As for the 64 bit version I have it running with none of the problems you described. If you want to try to get this working I would start out with a base 64 bit install and then add the phones sans any extra scripts and see if it is stable. My best guess is the fax may have something to do with it as I never tested the blessed thing.... One fo the reasons I never ported stuff over tot he new version.

I have heard of all of the phone deregistering every 24 hours before somewhere.... will think on that. I assume you have loaded the latest firmware on these phones as it is supposed to fix a number of problems with the phones.

Ward will have to speak about cepestral and his scripts.

Hi

Some of these issues sound dangerously like network or Dell hardware issues, not PiaF issues. I cannot believe that the PiaF would screw up so badly without anyone noticing before.

Start looking through the logs to see what is going on.

If there was enough meat in it, I'd consider dropping in a replacement PBX (not a Dell), to keep them happy in the short term, and just prove that it was not the system, and show them that you are making an effort.

Sorry to hear about that Ed! I don't think the 64bit version is production ready, so you may want to step back to 32bit rather than attempt to troubleshoot all these issues on a clients time. Although you definitely should get to know your clients network & network topology to see if there is anything causing disruptions between endpoints/server/DHCP/WAN access. There could be firewall issues as well. The fact that you've getting time drift among phones and all 30 losing registrations reliably overnight would have me looking for network issues first.

My only 1.2 Piaf install right now is my household with a couple of Aastra's and a bunch of Snom's. It's the 32bit install and it's been absolutely flawless. The only issue I've had with the Aastra phones is they didn't want to pick up the time from the Piaf box (although the Snom's I purchased from you do!), so I simply pointed the Aastra's to a pool.ntp server and it's been fine ever since. I don't use the expansion module, but call park & intercom has worked everytime so far. Voicemail to email works, although it's sending it to a yahoo account, not an in-house exchange server.

Good luck with this and keep us posted!

Thank you all

I will be going with the 32 bit version, today i will keep you posted, i have spoken with people much smarter than i, they have suggested the 32 bit will be a better fix, than stumbling through tweaking the 64.

Problem #1

Ed,

For your first problem with the phones not being registered make sure that you have the following in your
<mac>.cfg files.

sip registration period: 120
sip registration retry timer: 120
sip blf subscription period: 120

Good luck..

update

i cannot install 32-bit on this system, i do not know why, if i put the 64-bit disk in there are no problems, if i try any of the 5 32-bit versions i downloaded and burnt it hangs during the first part of the install. crazy hardware i think, anyways i'll let you all know how the 64-bit install works, and i'll post any changes i have to make along the way.

Hmmm. Always makes me nervous starting a deployment with hardware quirks, but we certainly needed someone to give the 64-bit version a good workout. If my DHCP code hadn't been so buggy initially, it probably would have gone smoother the first time.

We'll all be standing by. As I told you in the email, we got Cepstral working with the 64-bit OS so long as you use the x86-64 voices. So... it's smooth sailing ahead. Good luck!

Ed

Try to stay away from the exchange server.

set up the PIAF to send email straight to outlook.

I'm guessing a win SBS2003?
DNS?
DHCP?
WINS?
and everything else right?

If it is a WIN SBS server is it set up with a .local domain and a .com domain?

HUH?:confused5:
Ok here is what we are working with, this is what i have been told, there is a company called DBWebnet that administers all their networking stuff. They have a DNS server a DHCP server and an exchange server, I do not know the specifics, they were "supposed" to get that for me. It appears that the emails are being sent out through sendmail (at least there are no errors or mail queues) but it never gets to its destination, i know they are locked down tighter than fort knox with a sonicwall firewall and you can't even get internet access unless dbwebnet grants it to your internal ip/mac address. I may try the gmail write up and just have them open me a path for that.

here is the update on the 64-bit install so far:
I am having some small issues:

i needed to run ldconfig because my pri card wouldn't work
i have this issue
the time on the 57i phones won't update

i havent installed anything but the aastra scripts so as i install the other scripts i will post the errors/fixes

If you're using our aastra.cfg setup script, then the script points every phone to an external time server (time.nist.gov) on the Internet. Sounds like their firewall may be blocking the updates.

(Time issue resolved)
I must not be doing it right then, because in your aastra.cfg file it shows time server1: my.ip.address, but i have put the world time server in place of that and it still refuses to change, here is my aastra.cfg file:

time zone code: MST
time format: 0
date format: 7
dst config: 0

# 1 = true, means the time server is disabled.

# Enable time server and enter at least one time server IP address or
# qualified domain name.

Alot of win servers are set out of the box to be the mother of all things.

ie:
DNS
DHCP
WINS
master browser
exchange
and everything else

SBS is just more of the same PLUS
is the only DC (domain controller) allowed in the win network. Will not even play nice with other win servers out of the box.

Sounds like the sonicwall firewall is the main problem. Get your specs to the computer admin and get the ports opened up that you need. You need to give them the IP and MAC addresses of all the phones and the PIAF server.

Model of Aastra

Ed,
What models of Aastra are you using? I have a 55i for the operator, 480i for majority and a few 9133i. Will this same .cfg work for all? It just ignores the keys it does not have?
Thanks.
Ps...the XXX.XXX.XX.X/aastra/APPLICATION is that where you downloaded the apps to?
Thanks,
gary

they are

they are 57i, i'm not sure what this will work for, I'm assuming that you are going to copy the file above, and it goes in the:
/tftpboot file and it is named aastra.cfg, you need to run setup-aastra from the cli before this file will be available. I would follow Wards instructions and then just copy the aastra.cfg file afterwards. Wards instructions can be found here.

Cool. thanks.
Right now, I just have basic configs in the .cfg file and it is ok. Vmail, DND on and off...etc
But looking forward to more elaborate functions as I go on.
Thanks so much!
