Working on the NEW PIAF Black (We are running out of colors!)

The source is about double the size of Asterisk 11.

MIGHT have something out this weekend depending if someone wants to come over to our respective houses and cut our lawns................

Just doing the first install.

Tom, but you're so good at working that ol' black (Asterisk/Linux) magic! ;)

You DO realize that the configuration files for Asterisk have changed. You will NOT be able to get FreePBX to run on this alpha....

Gee no I had no idea at all :taz: Read all of the Asterisk 12 docs and looked through all of the file structures still could not tell. Guess I will have to "make" it work somehow with jiggery pokery. Guess that is why ward called it black magic....

Actually, I think the concern from the FreePBX folks is that people will start opening a bunch of bug tickets claiming FreePBX 2.11 doesn't work properly. And that would be correct. As I understand "The Plan", FreePBX 2.11 will never support Asterisk 12. Only FreePBX 2.12 (still on the drawing board) will work reliably with Asterisk 12 because of the entirely new SIP stack and the entirely new Asterisk API architecture and syntax.

Thanks Ward. That is exactly the problem (the new sip driver, of which "jiggery pokery" wont work). The sarcastic response from Darmock was completely unnecessary but expected. Considering the documentation talks heavily about the new PJSIP driver and the complete redesign of parking I find it extremely hard to believe darmock read anything at all on the asterisk site, but hey Please remember that I am just trying to help.

You have such a nice way of helping too.

Have a nice day

Right like the free work I've done for you making google voice work numerous times. Or how about all of the work I did trying to get the landing page working for you all again. Or how about endpoint manager and all of the work I did for that.

You have a real great way of thanking people Tom. REAL GREAT!

We're just a few days away from AstriCon 10, and I wanted to give everyone a progress report on Tom's new masterpiece. Black Magic with Asterisk 12 is not quite ready for prime time, but we're damn close. I'll have it running on a MacBook Air during AstriCon if you'd like to kick the tires. SIP and IAX extensions work. PJSIP works. Trunks work. IVRs work. Google Voice works. Flite works. GoogleTTS works. Conference bridge works. Most Incredible PBX apps work including News, Weather, Stocks, Time of Day, Reminders, Wolfram Alpha, and Lenny to name a few. If you'd like to try it out, I've set up the Nerd Vittles demo IVR temporarily. Please take it for a spin.

UPDATE: We'll be running the IVR demo "LIVE" during our trip to Atlanta on Sunday. Call in and let us know how well Verizon is doing.

What doesn't yet work is FreePBX. That's primarily because of their earlier commitments to get other things ready for AstriCon (that actually pay the bills). So the question is whether you believe it is worth Tom's time to spin up a build or a virtual machine without FreePBX but with the Nerd Vittles sample apps, a default extension, and a default setup for one Google Voice trunk so that you could experiment on your own. You might actually learn a little Asterisk dialplan magic just like in the old days.

What we've done is include huge chunks of the FreePBX 2.11 dialplan code so that we could quickly get features working, but there is no amportal and no GUI! Please post a reply below with any thoughts, comments, suggestions and whether you have any interest in a preview release. Thanks.

Yep Asterisk 12/Libpri/Dahdi/New Sip Stack/and a number of other things seems work great in 12. Been a bit of a pain getting it so it reliably compiles along with a couple of other gotchas with Centos 6.4 but.... It is good for experimentation and Ward has done a great job making it sit up and bark sans freepbx. Unfortunately I have a couple of other super secret double probation projects about to be released to alpha/beta however if there is sufficient interest I can put Asterisk - 12 - PIAF Black out for alpha testing.

Once freepbx 212 comes out in a stable format we can include it in the build as we have already revampled the code to accept it when it comes out.

Reasonable suggestions are always welcome (although some of the more extreme ones help break the tension)

I suspect your efforts are better spent elsewhere Tom. There's only a few purists as far as I can tell that have the time or inclination to tinker without the pretty interface :)

I tend to agree and there are some new things just over the horizon for PIAF which will demand more of our attention. That being said I have already written the main installer in preparation for when fpbx 212 comes out so it aint that big a deal. Now if I could only find a crackerjack php developer for one of our little projects.....

Tom

I second the notion of waiting for the FPBX. I think many of us are so busy, that although having Black is nice, personally I wouldn't have time to play with it much so I'd assume wait for the FPBX integration.
