Hello Fellows,

I have been in love with Incredible PIFA PBX for several years. I have been using my trusted Atom box from a Dell Thin Client machine from ebay, it has 2G of RAM. It keeps going and going.
It has an internal IP address of x.x.x.241.

I decided to upgrade to the latest Incredible PIFA ISO* with FreePBX. Complete rebuilt using the same hardware, I also added some Google Voice channels using Motif. Super cool, it has good voice quality for what I need and the price is right. That made me donate to the project.
Install PBX1 using DHCP and changed its IP address to x.x.x.241.

Now during the last 4 days I have been on and off trying to solve a problem. Yes, I Googled it a lot and searched this Forum too. Sure, show me I missed it, I am fine with that. I can use the help even if you show that I did not look hard enough ;-)

Here is my case:
I shut down and turned off the Atom machine, lets call it PBX1.

I built a virtual machine using ESXi with the same PIFA Free PBX ISO image and other combinations of OSes (32 or 64 bits) and Incredible PIFA on the top of it, the configuration works. Lets call this PBX2. Note: using DHCP for the internal IP address.

I configured Google Voice Motif in the PBX2, all good.

Then because I have phones configure for the IP address of PBX1, I just change the IP address from PBX2 to be the same as PBX1 x.x.x.241. All phones work. BUT, the Google Voice Motif shows the Red Disconnect.

I tried the reset device security as pointed on the this Forum to when Google Voice Motif can't authenticate.

In summary:
- Same PIFA FreePBX ISO build with latest updates at PBX1 and PBX2*
- PBX1 has IP Address x.x.x.241
- PBX2 works with another IP assigned by my DHCP server
- PBX2 Google Voice MOTIF breaks when I change the IP address to use the same IP address as PX1 :x.x.x.241
- PIFA breaks when change internal IP Address.

I turn off PBX2, and bring up PBX1 on. It works every time...

Why?
Can you point me to where to solve that?
What log could I post here for you to help?

* Foe me latest version =
  • Asterisk (Ver. 13.9.1)
  • Incredible PBX 12.0.70 'Incredible PBX GUI'

Thank you!,
-Jack

Is PBX2 configured to use DHCP or a static IP address? Needs to be static if you're changing the IP address manually. Lots of threads here on how to do that.

Thanks for the reply.

Static. I use Webmin after the install to change the IP to fixed.

It works since I can SSH, use the WebMin, and the IncrediablePBX web administration to get to it.

Once I change the internal IP address of the machine to fixed (and being the same as a machine that works), Google Voice Motif breaks.
I tried the back / restore and also setting the system manually with the Google Voice information.

Thank you again,
-Jack
p.s. good to hear/talk to you after several years reading your posts and using IncrediblePBX .

That is exactly the kind of troubleshooting guidance I need. That answer is I don't know. I need to figure how to get that.

Just to make sure I am explaining this correctly, I din't make calls, it can't dial out. I tried try to get a call into the Google Motif, it is showing the red Disconnected. Therefore, I assumed it could not get calls.

Can you suggest me some tests, and where to get the log that can help us troubleshot the problem?
I never had problems, therefore I am a GUI user at IncrediblePBX at this point.

Then, tell me how can I take you for coffee or your favorite drink when you are around Southern California...

Thank you,
-Jack

Well, I was able to make it work.
When I managed free time, I was playing around.

The problem was that once I changed the Ubuntu Server from Dynamic IP to Fix IP (using Webmin), it did not hold the DNS information provided by the DHCP server.

That is, the machine could not resolve the sever names (DNS). I could get to it server using the ESXi but did not notice the machine TCP/IP was no longer configured correctly.

As usual, few clicks later I was in business. Google Voice using MOTIF was registering and working nicely. I have been using for a few days already.

I hope this will help someone one day.
Simple and easy. Basic I guess...

Thanks,
-Jack

When you set up a static IP address with Linux, you become responsible for managing DNS unlike dynamic IP addressing in which DNS is automatically assigned for you.
