Another day, another question... :)

I understand the Grandstream GXP-2000s have full-duplex speakerphones (http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/GXP-2000).

For some reason, I'm not "getting" full-duplex on my calls.

Example: I make an internal call from one 2000 to another. If both handsets are used, it's full-duplex -- no cutting out, even if both people are talking. However, if either side is using the speakerphone, the phones try to decide which one is talking and silence the other person.

Wouldn't full-duplex mean that this would not happen??

I'm using PIAF Purple -- FreePBX 2.9.07, Asterisk 1.8.7.1, CentOS 5.7 Final.

Shoot, I hope the answer isn't as simple as that! If so, I'm not sure how in the world they can call these full-duplex speakerphones.:confused5:

I had a run in with Grandstream several years ago when I was first getting into VOIP. The original GXP-2000 phone had horrible audio. The handset mic clipped everything and they could not make them right. I sent them sound files recorded with their phone and the same recording recorded with a Snom 300. The difference in quality between the sound files was remarkable. In the end, Grandstream refused to RMA the 8 phones that I had and I ended up eating them. I used the last one about 3 years ago as the source for a paging system.

The Grandstream engineers had no problem telling me that the audio on those phones was fine, so I have no trouble believing that they call it full-duplex when it is VOX.

Ah... that's a shame.

Well, I guess I don't have too much to complain about, as I got these things for $30 apiece.

Are there any similar phones that you would recommend that aren't too expensive that... actually work as they're supposed to? :)

Appreciate you sharing your experience, John!

I have over 50 GXP-2000's in production right now.
They are working fairly well in my environment.

However in a loud area the speaker phone is far from full duplex for sure.

Is it a hunk of junk? Probably but it works and on a shoestring budget it's not a terrible choice.

I certainly would have gone with another phone if I could find the right price and had a little experience working with it.

But since I have so many GXP-2k's and have worked (fought with) on them so much I'm kind-of comfortable with their limitations and shortcomings.
