TIPS Stopping Sendmail from forwarding "root" emails

hostname returns "pbx.mydomain.com". hostname -d returns "mydomain.com".

Ok, everything is setup correctly... After, re-reading your first post, I think I finally understand what you want to do... :-)

In Webmin, under sendmail, have you configured any "mail aliases" or "address mappings"? The only way you can prevent "root" emails from leaving through the smart host, is to eliminate any aliasing of the root email account, so it'll be delivered to the local root email address.

I didn't have anything under address mappings, but there was the default mail alias for "root" there, which I've now deleted. Sendmail was stopped (since I didn't want things hitting the smarthost in the configuration it was in), so I restarted it after deleting the root entry. Saw a few things in the mail queue that went out. Voicemail-to-email notification went out successfully, then a slew of root emails tried hitting the smarthost as well. However, since they were in queue it may have not been respecting the new condition.

I'll monitor now that the root alias has been removed and see what happens.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to have helped. I've had to disable Sendmail again to stop the flow.

It's weird... I have the exact same setup, however all my root emails stay local... I'm fresh out of ideas...
