Available for around $100 USD in many locations -

Good video on the device - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3mXZazm6Zw

Out of the box, it allows you to play digital content on your TV from 2 USB devices. USB Hard Drive, USB key, etc.

You can also flash it to work with USB network devices .... thus you can play stuff off your network.

Cool !

The wiki says it can run any of these Linux programs:

Could it run PIAF ?

PIAF is a suite of tools and utilities built around a Linux kernel and the assumption of a generally "normal" file system. You might have to just try it and see, but you'd have to hook up a CD-ROM, get it to boot off the CD-ROM, and hope that you can figure out how to do the graphical or text installer without a keyboard/mouse/whatever, unless it recognizes multiple USB devices (CD, keyboard, mouse, etc).

Having never seen the device before reading this posting, you might be able to get Asterisk on it, and you might be able to get MySQL on it, and you might even be able to get FreePBX on it, but I'm thinking that's going to be seriously hard compared to just getting Asterisk on it and using command line interfaces to update configuration files directly.

That implies that you know what files to change, but it's much more probable that this will work than a full-blown PIAF install.

But for $100, I just might buy one and try it and see!

2 USB + 1 extra and can make networkable.

I bought one today.
I've heard they are quite good at playing media anyway.

I has two USB slots, and another one inside that is not activated. The above wiki has the directions to activate it.

Another interesting thing is that you can change the firmware and allow the USB to work with a USB to ethernet adapter ... thus ... you can make it networkable.

And therefore you can FTP to the device ... etc. Which might make installing programs like PIAF easier.

I don't have the NIX skills to accomplish this.
