TIPS Cellular.everything

I know when we were in Amish countryside and I went to make a phone call from a furniture shop, my T-Mobile failed to work, while my daughter's Visible worked perfect.
Yeah. Verizon/Visible works a lot better in the rural areas than T-Mobile. T-Mobile is great in metro areas and along major roadways but they have neglected the rural and sparsely populated areas. One day, I'd like to see all carriers perform equally so we could truly have a competitive environment.

Also, if you're in a National Park like the Great Smokey Mountains, you can forget about cell service altogether since they don't allow towers in most of the parks.

Right - while going through the Smokey Mountains on the way home along I-75 ... we had a small issue here or there, but was minor. I was more upset that my kids wanted to bury their heads in their internet devices rather than looking at how we were driving through clouds.

Sounds like someone tried to skirt the promotion, that they had an existing account, and then tried to move things around to take advantage of the discounted rate that as they said, "is for new customers". That and get a new phone with a $200 off. Personally, I have no issues with what they (visible) did. .... FYI - Daughter's Visible account still going strong.

I agree with what "probably" happened but I don't agree with the handling.
CANCELLING accounts? Jeopardizing peoples phone numbers in the process? Not cool.

Open the account at full price, apply no promo credits.
Hell, SUSPEND the accounts if you really wanna make stink but outright CANCELATION?

That's a bit of a bridge too far imo.
I mean who's to even say they got it right 100% of the time? Imagine you actually did nothing wrong and lost your phone number?
And then there's those who may have violated TOS but didnt' actually know it. Not fair to drop that size ban-hammer on them either.
Sure some ppl probably gamed the system. But doubtless some dolphins got swept up in that tuna net.

Can't argue that

Personally, I agree that those that scammed the promotion should lose service. And if they did not port the number in, then they should lose the number also. No sense rewarding them for fraudulent actions.

Hey @wardmundy , I am considering Visible as an alternative to my current cell provider/plan, and while searching online I found a post in Nerdvittles (from February 2021) where it seems like you created a Visible Party (https://www.visible.com/p/Hulls), would i Be able to join the party directly from that page, or do I need something (code or similar) from you? A year late to the party, but hopefully the doors are still open  .

The problem with heavy-handed automated or blanket actions is you can never be sure if you got it 100% right. Screwing over innocents (or even ignorants - of whom we have many in today's society) is really not ok. So if you (meaning VZ) wanna take that tact you'd better put in 110% of the legwork to make sure you're getting it RIGHT on EVERY account. Which we know isn't going to happen and esp. not on their "discount" brand.

A more reasonable approach is as I laid out. You can open the accounts and apply no discounts (and as a for-profit business, that really SHOULD be the approach as it protects the income and therefore the profit, which is, you know, the reason they are in business). You can let those ppl affected appeal for the discounts if they think they truly deserve.
Or you can SUSPEND the account, and again, let ppl appeal the decision if they think they are in the right, then decide on a case by case to either instate the account, instate with promo, or eject them.

Cutting them off at the neck and jeopardizing numbers however, ESP if they are ports, and doing it as a blanket, knee-jerk reaction is just draconian, way far over the top and behavior that itself cannot be "rewarded".

As I stated before, those that scammed the promotion should lose service, and if they did not port the number in, then they should lose the number also. Screwing over a business that is providing a legitimate service is absolutely something that should not be tolerated! It's not fair to all the legitimate users who may end up with degraded service because the company opened fraudulent accounts. As I also stated above, if the customer ported a number in, the customer should be able to keep the number and get and pay for legitimate service where they want. I never said to take blanket action nor close every account only take action on fraudulently opened accounts. Just don't tolerate or reward fraudulent customers, it's not good for business. There are enough scammers out there already, and it's time to stop rewarding them.

Thanks! Now, every Ukrainian with a cell phone is getting called about their Automobile extended warranty.
Except the robo callers have more brains and know not to waste time calling to warranty a vehicle that may be blown up or ran over by a tank at any minute.

But do they? I think they'd call about anyone

Top of the bottom list? Hehe.

being owned by Verizon, they can make the priority whatever thay want. But it is pretty far down on the totem pole. Don’t know any Verizon network engineers to verify where they are.

Visible now.
The video limit is 720p according to speedtest app.

It is almost 9pm here though.
It's been over a year since my original post. I just checked my phone, and My D/L this month is 77GB. I watch streamng TV all the time. I've never noticed throttling. I tether my phone and set the TTL on the PC appropriately, and my tether has never been throttled. I live in New Hampshire, YMMV, No guarentees... but I've enjoyed more than a year of $25/month wireless unlimited and it's fantaastic.

Thanks a lot for the introduction. Still haven't converted the other mobiles to it, but plan to. Do you know what their european roaming handles? (planning on a trip this summer ... if Putin doesn't screw it up).

There is no international roaming. Visible only works in the US, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Hold on to your T-Mobile until your vacation is over.
