Thanks for all the comments. We froze at 1.4.21.1 because it was the last to support zaptel. I see one of you seem to be running the current release of 1.4 with zaptel. I sure would like to know how you did that. When I attempted to compile zaptel under the next few releases after 21.1 it failed quite miserably. For the one running the current version of 1.4 with zaptel I would like to ssh into your machine if possible and verify the mechanism that got it working again. Please PM me.

Admirable sentiments that unfortunately get mired in the real world. Ward and I have had much communication with Digium over the years we have been doing this with minimal results. Cooperation tends to work both ways so draw your own conclusions. Our loyalty lies with our users I am afraid rather than Digium. I suppose this breaks all of the ideals of your point of view but it is the only one we have at the moment.
As for testing... we have a number of test systems real and virtual that run in the lab(s) Generally everything is tested on virtual and then moved over to real hardware for further testing and then propagated to PIAF space. and yes all of the versions get tested on real hardware with real fxo/fxs/et al cards in them. Luckily we have had some generous donors over the years who have provided us with extra cards to go in our lab machines. (Openvox to name one great corporate sponsor) Sure wish we could get a set of the current crop of digium cards but.........
As for freepbx I run the latest on my personal pbx which I use a long term test bed so far so good with some hiccups here and there. Once we consider it stable it will be included in the load files.
Lastly "Doing it our way" Yep you are right. I seem to remember you were a big greenie supporter but everyone is welcome here. Improvements are always welcome and the tools to do it are built into every PIAF system so Please have at it and contribute back.
